Los Angeles Opera: Highway 1, USA/The Dwarf
It’s not often that an opera is set in contemporary America, but that’s exactly what Los Angeles Opera is doing with their upcoming production of Highway 1, USA/The Dwarf. The opera tells the story of a young woman who is struggling to make her way in the world. She turns to prostitution to make ends meet, but eventually finds herself in danger when she becomes the target of a serial killer.
The opera is set to a score by composer John Adams, and will be conducted by LA Opera Music Director James Conlon. The production will be directed by Peter Sellars, who is known for his innovative and often controversial approach to opera.
