Los Angeles Opera: La Traviata
Los Angeles Opera will present La Traviata at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Violetta, a beautiful courtesan, falls in love with the young gentleman Alfredo. Despite her better judgment and the warnings of her friend Flora, she abandons her life of luxury and runs off with him to live in the country. Alfredo’s father, Germont, arrives and demands that Alfredo end the relationship so that his family’s good name will not be tarnished.
Alfredo rejects his father’s request and instead Challenges him to a duel. Violetta becomes ill and returns to Paris. Germont visits her and finally convinces her to give Alfredo up for the good of his family. Violetta agrees and sends a letter to Alfredo breaking off their relationship. Alfredo arrives at her house just as she is leaving for the country. He read her letter and accuses her of betraying him. Violetta tries to explain but Alfredo will not listen. He leaves her heartbroken.
A year later, Violetta is once again living a life of luxury. She is at a party at Flora
